10 Years for Formulated Dental Plan

I am not for sure what year it was when Kevin moved to Dallas because every time that I ask him, the year changes, but he is thinking it was in 1999. Kevin calls it his " Freedom Tour. " His plan was to drive from Missouri and eventually end up in California with stops along the way in different places like Dallas, Las Vegas, etc. He thought he'd become a big time movie producer in LA.

Well, he made it as far as Dallas when he ran out of gas, and thanks too this idea of his " Freedom Tour " he got the " Turano Adventure " instead ;)

We celebrated Kevin's ten year anniversary of him starting his company a couple weeks ago. I thought it would be really neat to take Kevin to a place with significance to him. A place that would give him perspective and appreciation for his hard work.

I took him to stay a night at what is now " Hotel Palomar " in Dallas. This hotel has significance because Kevin lived in this hotel shortly after he moved to Dallas. Only it was not the Palomar. It was an old beat up hotel that cost 200 dollars a week for him to live in. Once when his brother Jeff came to visit him in Dallas he booked a room in the old hotel and the room they gave him had no bed in it! When he went back down to the front desk to get another room, the next room did not have a phone in it. Today that same hotel has been morphed into an incredible Palomar, and the cost is 200 dollars a night to stay in it. A bonus is that we didn't have to sleep with the lights on so that the cockroaches wouldn't come out, like Kevin had too when he lived in this exact hotel.

It was fun for Kevin to show me around and tell me about what part of the structure they had kept the same and what part of it they added on. As we sat in the hot tub Kevin had the moment that I was hoping for. He reminiced on his time of first moving to Dallas and he was able to see how far he had come since all those years ago.

Just as Kevin has transformed his own life, he also transformed a company. He took his thoughts and ideas and made them into a reality. Just like the beat up, old hotel had morphed into something great, Kevin essentially has done the exact same thing with his company, himself, and he created a family in the process.

I remember when I was pregnant with Brooke I hated how long Kevin worked. He worked until 9pm at night...Kevin has worked so hard to make his company support our family. I think he has worked harder than almost anyone that I know in fact! Because the thing about Kevin is that he didn't just work all those long hours and come home and go to bed. He would stay up with me until 1am and when Brooke was born he would come home and play with her until midnight! He doesn't make our family suffer from his long hours...When he has worked those long hours he still give us time to love talk and play....

He always told me it would get better and the thing that I know about Kevin is that he doesn't just say things...He does follow through...He doesn't work until 9pm at night anymore, thankfully....

Kevin's hard work is appreciated and I feel extremely blessed to be able to stay at home with my children. I admire Kevin's determination with his company even though many people have told him to give up...
He never does...When Kevin believes in something he makes things happen...and I love that about him.
There have even been times that I may not have been as optimistic as I should have about his company, and he stood with his feet firmly planted on the ground, and knew that he would make it work...He never gives up on his dreams and that is a wonderful trait to have!

We had some really yummy dinner! We played with his new remote control helicopter in the room. We had dessert at midnight at the bar, and we played Poker in our pajamas...

Acting Casual

Will was holding a whole carton of eggs! Every single egg was on the brink of being broken! Surprise elevated my voice, okay....that's the nice way of saying that I screamed....but it was a nice scream considering that there was about to be broken eggs all over the place! I screamed, " Will, what are you doing with the eggs!? " He seemed just as surprised as I was and said, " But I just have to check and see if any baby chickens are in them!" As I took them away he tried to be as persuasive as a big brown eyed little boy could be....He said, " I just need to be careful with them. I just need to be soft to the eggs and check if there is a baby chicken in them." Once I had the eggs under control I had a huge smile and laughter barley hanging inside myself as he desperately wanted to hold the eggs...

Brooke and Will were so excited to get the yard and front door ready for Halloween. Kevin happened to be working late, so we decided to make our own project of Halloween decorating. As we were getting everything together we noticed that we were going to need a screwdriver to change batteries in our purple light up bats. I began with the ghost poster on the front door, but Brooke and Will ( as always ) decided to be independent and take the initiative themselves, to find the screwdriver. As I quietly followed them into the garage I hear Brooke say, " Will lets get Daddy's tool box." And I couldn't hardly believe what Will said next as they started to carry the tool box back into the house from the garage...Will said, " Brooke...act casual" and he started kind of tiptoeing, but it looked more like a dance move...it was hilarious...Brooke started laughing out loud, saw me and said to me, " Did you just hear what Will said? " We both laughed hysterically.

I had decided I was going to take the time that Will would be in pre-school one morning to attend the temple in Dallas. I been straightening my hair and putting on make up. It was when I put on my dress that Will so kindly said, " Mommy you look like a princess." I said with a smile, " Really? Wow, thank you Will. " He then said, " Your shirt is beautiful." I said, " Really? You like it?" And, I couldn't have imagined anything sweeter, and then he said, " You are a pretty Mommy." I felt like I was on top of a cloud all morning just thinking how sweet of a little boy that I have. I thought how lucky am I that my son would think I was pretty enough to say something about it.

Will has been saying some very cute prayers. He hasn't quite mastered keeping his eyes closed the whole time, but of course his Dad hasn't either, so I can't really blame him....but he is has a lot of gratitude in his heart. Will has to name so many things that he is thankful for in his prayers in order for him to be satisfied. He always says, " Heavenly Father, thank you for Mommy, Daddy, Brooke , Grandpa, my toys, my car bed, my turtles, my flags, my door, my masks, etc....
A couple nights ago Will said a very cute and thoughtful prayer as we made a circle on our knees praying. But, Will realized just as he ended the prayer that he didn't say thank you for Brooke. Then moment he said, " In the name of Jesus Christ." He said, " Oh no, my Brookeee." I said, " You can say another prayer if you would like." He bowed his head again and said, " And thank you for My Brookee, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen. " It was so sweet to see him with such a strong desire to say thank you for Brooke on his own. Will really loves his sister a lot.

Will Disappeared

It got kind of scary towards the end of the week in Padre because Will became so comfortable at the beach. Once I was talking to someone and the next thing I knew Will was gone! Kevin was swimming deeper in the ocean with Uncle Andy and he told me he saw the whole thing from afar. I didn't see Will with any of the kids, and when I finally saw him he was running down the beach pretty far away...he was just chasing all the seagulls along the whole entire shoreline at full speed!!! I was running to catch him and he kept running away from me, until he ran right into the ocean! Then he saw Grandpa, Grandma and Sydney feeding the seagulls, so chasing them wasn't as exciting anymore....

He did this the next day as well...and so we had to start watching him like a hawk because he'd run straight into the water with out any fear of the waves.....

Crew " Pack " plays pirates

Grandma brought pirate costumes and princess costumes for the kids to dress up and play pirates in!

Being the crew of this captain is like a dream come true for these little buccaneers! Grandma Pack always is thinking of ways to make her Grand children more excited, feel more loved, and more entertained than any Grandma on the face of the planet!Grandma Pack had more luggage coming into this beach house than you even knew could be possible in the world of packing luggage...but it was all for a good cause...
She packed games, toys, movies, books and every fun thing possible for her grand kids. She is always thoughtful of everyone and just truly has no greater joy than seeing you little ones happy. You are so loved by Grandma Pack. She is very special to very many little ones...Some day when you grow and have kids of your own, you will probably know how lucky you were....and you will probably want to show kindness and love...just like your Grandma Pack does for you.....

Blast with a boat in the ocean!!!!

Kevin was skeptical of the boat being a good idea when I brought it back from the shopping trip, but he ended up really glad that I had bought it. It did eventually break the rope off because  waves were so forceful.
Mostly, Hyrum, Brooke and Will rode in it. They had a blast!!!

Fun Junkies!!!

Brooke, Will and I were cozy in the car with blankets and pillows. We were soundly sleeping. Kevin on the other hand was popping caffeine pills to get us to the beach by sunrise. That was his goal...He wanted to pull up to the beach and surprise the kids by waking up ocean side....Kevin being the fun junkie that he is didn't end up at the beach at sunrise...We all woke up to a parking lot full of six person bicycles, and Kevin saying, " Emily...You have to look this up on your phone. We have to see how much these cost to buy and to rent."
I entertained him... looked it up and told him they were four thousand dollars new. He then started naming all the good reasons it would be for us to buy one!

Well, long story short...our next stop was the beach, where we all got out in our pajamas and ran around!!..Then we rented the bike! It was a hit with the Pack family.

I called and told my Dad to get everyone outside...We didn't tell anyone where we went...or what we were doing...we just showed up in the front yard..Kevin, myself and the kids driving this bike towards the house. The cousins were so excited for Uncle Kevin to take them for a ride! One of the first comments from Uncle Bryant was that he wanted one for his house too! I guess birds of a feather flock together ;)

But actually that is not the end of the story...So...We girls decide to take this bike for a spin on main street in Padre Island, where all the tourist shops are...
Only Kevin didn't come..Which I was very worried about...
Grandma wouldn't go without Grandpa...So Grandpa drove but had no instructions from Kevin.
Grandma, and I were screaming because Kevin told us to go over the road bumps slow or we would tip over! Grandpa was going a little too fast for us...I didn't realize my steering wheel didn't work, so I felt out of control when I realized that! Amy was loudly saying in the back, " You are going the right way. " I was saying, " You are going the wrong way. " And Audrey was saying, " Do you want me to drive in the front for you Emily? " Because Grandpa complained that I wasn't helping pedal!

We did finally make it to some stores and picked out our souvenirs...which included a boat that I insisted I was buying to pull the kids in the ocean...and although everyone was worried it would fall of the top of the bike...I knew it wouldn't...So I just bought it and the kids had a blast being pulled in the ocean....

Happy girls with their shopping bags full of seashells, necklaces and postcards...
