Story written a month ago about Grandpa Turano

Brooke wrote this about one month ago, before Grandpa Turano passed away. She needed to write a story for an assignment. She chose to write a story about her Dad and Grandpa Turano.

The Ice and Water on My Dad

On a sunny day with my grandpa and grandma Turano, me and my Grandpa Turano were sitting on the couch and my Dad was asleep on the other couch with his phone in his hand. My grandpa told me to put my Dad's phone on his head. At first I said no, but the second time I said yes. Then he gave me a cup and told me to put ice and water in the cup and I said yes. So, I went and did it. Then he told me to put ice in my Dad's pocket and dump the water on it and I said no, but then I said yes, because he said that I could put a stick in his pants if I did. So I did it. Then I went outside to get a stick. I got a little one and stuck it up my Dad's pants. Then my Grandma said, you're as bad as her, and then my Dad woke up and he said, why is there a stick in my pants and why am I wet? What happened? Why is there ice in my pocket.

Grandpa Turano and Brooke had a good laugh :)

Your Grandpa Turano

Brooke and William,

I have been pondering for days what I would write to you about your Grandpa Turano and his recent death. There are are just not even words that can express how much he will be missed by all of us. Even now your Father mourns over the thought of not receiving another text message from his Father. Those simple and small messages would bring a smile or laugh into his day. Although many in the Kansas City vicinity will remember the outstanding physician that he was, as he shared some of lives most treasured moments with over ten-thousand husbands and wives, as their new born babies took their first breath outside the womb, the memory that we hold in our hearts is more than just a special moment, but a life time of special moments, of strength provided in family relations, or the " glue " that held the family together. Although he is remembered for being there at only a phone call away, in medical emergencies for his OBGYN patients, he is remembered by the Turano's as having incredible worth ethic and desire to create security for the family in their present day and future needs. It is certain that his careful architecture designing of his office buildings will be held as a piece of him, still with them, in his offices, but we will be missing the careful design and planning on how to handle his daughter's needs..being the father figure of his two grand daughters who lost their father as just baby and toddler. In an effort to provide comfort in a way that not even he could completely heal, he   planned and followed through adding a deck in Aunt Doreen's  backyard, as well the landscape that is enjoyed early mornings as she drinks her coffee outside. He went to her house and enjoyed that coffee with her at home just down the street on many mornings....This will be deeply missed by Aunt Doreen.
Your Father will not just be missing text messages, but also daily phone calls. These phone calls although consisted of being playfully harassed for not seeing eye to eye on a political, financial, or family security advise, could be overwhelming at times, but the general idea clearly shown was that Grandpa Turano cared...and loved us enough to want to be a part of our lives and the decisions made in it. He was known at the local Casino as " Silver Fox " but to us he will always be more precious than gold. He left us his dearest works of retouching and cleaning up pictures of ancestors. Grandpa sent them to us over email and shared his love for his deceased family by sharing memories and photographs with us. He knew what the family should be made of and he made every effort to provide the ingredients that he so clearly believed in....Laughter, Loving, and Zest for Life....When stress levels in the home went up he soothed our hearts by playing his black Grand Piano. When he was happy, he shared the song of his heart on his piano, as his children will never forget waking up on Sat. mornings to the song from Fiddler on the Roof , " If I were a rich man." He loved history, and not just the written history but the artifacts of it. His collection of antique record players, cars, and much more, wasn't just a love for the item, but the history behind it. He once said about me, that he knew I was a good soul, because " how could someone who loved Mickey Mouse not be a good soul? " Today I say to you Dad Turano, " How could a man who admits to talking to his plants so they will grow more tall, more strong, and more beautiful , not be a good soul?" I teased him this past December as we gathered around for our Christmas Italian Feast...I asked, " Do you talk to your plants? " Since he loves them so much. He openly admitted he did without an ounce of shame in his voice...Now, others may have thought he was teasing me, since I practically believe anything out of his mouth, even after years of data that should have taught me to do otherwise...but I believe he did talk to his plants. After all, Jeff and Kevin did  find a blue print of every tree, flower and plant that he had planted in his back yard and garden. Brooke and Will, he had a good soul...and as he told me, that about me....I tell you that I know that about him, your sweet grandfather who is greatly missed already, HAD A GOOD SOUL.... We will see him again. Your Father in Heaven always has the last say about when someone passes into the next life.It was not coincidence that Uncle Leonard happened to be in town, or that Grandma Turano's best friend from Israel happened to come in town specifically because she had a feeling she should  go see Dorothy ...As we mourn I ask us to remember in the Bible in Luke chapter 12 verse 6 and 7

Jesus says, " Are not five sparrows sold for two farthlings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? But even the very hairs of your head are numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows. "

God knows everything...he notices even when one hair on our head is lost! He is the creator of our world and universe...what he knows and has said, goes...and we should be thankful for that...For his will...because he is a merciful loving Father in Heaven, who will never leave those who turn to him comfortless...

God knew that Grandpa Turano's time was up, and that it would be alright for him to enter into his next journey, until we meet again, as we go into the next life, or at the resurrection that we will all be blessed with when Christ comes again....we will see him again and we will embrace him as we have once before...

31st Birthday Party at Holly's House

Holly and Kristy threw me a birthday party at Holly's house this year! That meant a lot because I know how hard it must have been for Holly to get her house so clean, take care of all her kiddos and make these delicious desserts for my friends!  Kristy requested a special gift for everyone to bring that just shows how much Kristy knows me and how thoughtful she was in trying to help me get something that I would have wanted more than anything. Kristy emailed everyone on the guest list and asked if they would bring a missionary experience they had written down. Holly is still planning to get me hers and one other sweet friend Erin Bailey gave me her experience that day...and that is a huge expression of love towards me!

I am thankful for all these amazing ladies as friends and the question has been asked a few times why everyone is posing? Kevin guessed right! I told everyone to put their hands on their hips for the picture! ;)

Pre-Birthday party

I am so blessed, lucky and delighted to have a friend like Holly Duenas. It is hard to find a friend who loves and accepts you even with all your weaknesses and I have a lot of those! One of the best things about Holly is that I know she loves me enough to tell me what she really thinks. She is compassionate to me, she knows how to have fun and we both LOVE a good meal and some fun Mommy time out!

Holly has been one of my closest friends for five years now. She has seen me at ups and downs. She has heard my wild ideas, greatest fears, and dreams...

As an early celebration to my birthday we enjoyed a girls afternoon of getting our nails done and eating at our favorite restaurant Sauce, on the McKinney square. We order the same delicious salad every time we go...share pizza and it is so yummy! But, just hanging out is the best. I love you Holly! :)

Will's Preschool Easter Egg Hunt

At Will's preschool Easter Egg Hunt he was for sure one of the fastest egg collectors of his preschool class.
Despite Will being super excited, one thing that was super sweet and cute was when one of the eggs was broken on the ground and Will saw that it was chocolate inside. He stopped from his egg chase and went up to the little girl in his class named " Ainsley " whom he refers to as his " Queen" and he said to her, " You can have this one, its chocolate and chocolate makes me itchy." He dropped it in his basket and it all happened so fast that I couldn't get a picture of anything but him running away from her to go find some more eggs!

Ainsley Will's little " queen " has a twin sister that Will calls, " princess. " His teacher Mrs.Cori laughs and tells me that Will really does treat Ainsley a bit more like royalty than the one he calls princess....
And, I am not sure why he decided one was more of a queen and one more a princess, but so far, I haven't heard that it is hurting anyone's feelings?

Another Adventure just in time for our Nine Year Wedding Anniversary

We were due for an Adventure, and although I planned this one out....leave it to Kevin to get us all laughing, crying and leave us with unforgettable memories on our Sat. morning activity.

This past Sat. we went out to White Rock Lake and rented a canoe. The kids were so excited to go on a canoe, because they had never been on one before. We all had our own paddles and even Will helped us get around some.

Will is sure a brave little guy because he kept telling us all that he knew there was an alligator in the water underneath us, and he wasn't worried about it at all! Will also said he saw a shark fin a few times as we were paddling along in the lake. So, if you ever need a really brave guide to take you in one lake, where alligators and sharks are swimming just below your canoe, just ask Will to take you to White Rock Lake, to go canoeing with you ;)

We brought some bread and fed a Mom and some baby ducks as we paddled along. The kids were just tickled to have the little babies swim pretty close to us, and gobble the bread all up.

We counted 22 turtles that we spotted on our one hour trip around the creek.

We were brave and decided to take this little side creek narrow path into the woods. I told Kevin I was glad that we went that way because it got really green and really pretty where we were headed...of course I wasn't surprised at all when Kevin ruined our peaceful, and serene moment by explaining that I needed to make sure that Brooke looked the other way, because he needed to pee. I couldn't stop him...and as he stood up the boat was rocking pretty heavily and the kids started screaming.

Our sweet nature conversation turned into Brooke being tramatized that her Dad peed in public. For the next ten min. all we heard was Brooke saying how what he did was against the law, and of course the reminder that Brooke, Will and I all used the port-a-potty before we got into the canoe, and Daddy should have done that!

Just as we calmed down from that excitement Kevin, being bummed out that he forgot his fishing pole at home, spotted a loose fishing string attatched to a tree with a hook. Well, we all know that Kevin is a pro at stick and string fishing, so he thought it would be a good idea to stand up again in the canoe and see if he could untangle this string from a near by tree.

He paddled us close to the tree and I started screaming at the top of my lungs! Kevin had driven us into a tree that was infested with huge brown spiders crawling all over it and only a few inches from my face where I had slid off the seat of the canoe into the bottom of the boat as I was trying to get away from them!

Our adventure ended with Will excited about the spiders, telling all kinds of stories about how they scratched and bit Mommy, and Brooke still traumatized that her Dad peed in the lake while we were on our canoe trip.

She mentioned it again today actually.

Thanks Kevin for always adding excitement to our lives! Happy nine year wedding Anniversary!
This journey could only be possible with you, and you teach me so much! I love you forever and no matter what...

                                                                                                 Love,
                                                                                                       Emily :)

Feb.22nd , 9am - The Living Christ

Brooke's Grandpa, Allen Paul Pack Senior, baptized her on Feb.22nd, 2014 at 9am in the morning.
It was such an incredibly special day that Brooke waited for excitedly all year long. I think it is really special that Brooke can think back and remember that special day with some exact words that were stated by memory in the first talk given by Brother David Shumway. The words stated were from the Living Christ.

Brooke, I hope that you can remember these words and feel of our Savior's love for you, and never forget the witnesses left by the Apostles and Prophets who have sacrificed everything, even their lives for Jesus Christ's Gospel.

Here is some information on what the Living Christ is, as well the document copied below. The spirit and message from the Living Christ was felt very strongly this day of Brooke's baptism, as these special words were stated. I, recall Grandpa Pack had tears in his eyes I am sure because he knows so deeply of the truth that is witnessed through this testimony.

The Living Christ

When the 11 Apostles of Jesus’s day met to choose a man to replace Judas Iscariot, Peter stated that the new Apostle must be “a witness with us of [Christ’s] resurrection” (Acts 1:22). Later, the record states, the Apostles “with great power gave … witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus” (Acts 4:33). The prophets, seers, and revelators of our day are also “special witnesses of the name of Christ in all the world” (D&C 107:23). They publicly declared their testimony in “The Living Christ: The Testimony of the Apostles” on January 1, 2000. In a letter to priesthood leaders introducing this publication, Presidents Gordon B. Hinckley, Thomas S. Monson, and James E. Faust of the First Presidency wrote:

As we commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ two millennia ago, we offer our testimony of the reality of His matchless life and the infinite virtue of His great atoning sacrifice. None other has had so profound an influence upon all who have lived and will yet live upon the earth.
He was the Great Jehovah of the Old Testament, the Messiah of the New. Under the direction of His Father, He was the creator of the earth. “All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made” (John 1:3). Though sinless, He was baptized to fulfill all righteousness. He “went about doing good” (Acts 10:38), yet was despised for it. His gospel was a message of peace and goodwill. He entreated all to follow His example. He walked the roads of Palestine, healing the sick, causing the blind to see, and raising the dead. He taught the truths of eternity, the reality of our premortal existence, the purpose of our life on earth, and the potential for the sons and daughters of God in the life to come.
He instituted the sacrament as a reminder of His great atoning sacrifice. He was arrested and condemned on spurious charges, convicted to satisfy a mob, and sentenced to die on Calvary’s cross. He gave His life to atone for the sins of all mankind. His was a great vicarious gift in behalf of all who would ever live upon the earth.
We solemnly testify that His life, which is central to all human history, neither began in Bethlehem nor concluded on Calvary. He was the Firstborn of the Father, the Only Begotten Son in the flesh, the Redeemer of the world.
He rose from the grave to “become the firstfruits of them that slept” (1 Corinthians 15:20). As Risen Lord, He visited among those He had loved in life. He also ministered among His “other sheep” (John 10:16) in ancient America. In the modern world, He and His Father appeared to the boy Joseph Smith, ushering in the long-promised “dispensation of the fulness of times” (Ephesians 1:10).
Of the Living Christ, the Prophet Joseph wrote: “His eyes were as a flame of fire; the hair of his head was white like the pure snow; his countenance shone above the brightness of the sun; and his voice was as the sound of the rushing of great waters, even the voice of Jehovah, saying:
“I am the first and the last; I am he who liveth, I am he who was slain; I am your advocate with the Father” (D&C 110:3–4).
Of Him the Prophet also declared: “And now, after the many testimonies which have been given of him, this is the testimony, last of all, which we give of him: That he lives!
“For we saw him, even on the right hand of God; and we heard the voice bearing record that he is the Only Begotten of the Father—
“That by him, and through him, and of him, the worlds are and were created, and the inhabitants thereof are begotten sons and daughters unto God” (D&C 76:22–24).
We declare in words of solemnity that His priesthood and His Church have been restored upon the earth—“built upon the foundation of . . . apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone” (Ephesians 2:20).
We testify that He will someday return to earth. “And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together” (Isaiah 40:5). He will rule as King of Kings and reign as Lord of Lords, and every knee shall bend and every tongue shall speak in worship before Him. Each of us will stand to be judged of Him according to our works and the desires of our hearts.
We bear testimony, as His duly ordained Apostles—that Jesus is the Living Christ, the immortal Son of God. He is the great King Immanuel, who stands today on the right hand of His Father. He is the light, the life, and the hope of the world. His way is the path that leads to happiness in this life and eternal life in the world to come. God be thanked for the matchless gift of His divine Son.
